Compass Harbor Trail is a hidden jewel on the fringe of Acadia National Park that is easily accessible. There is a small parking lot along Route 3 at the trail head located less than a mile south of downtown Bar Harbor. This level trail is a 10 minute walk to the tranquil Compass Harbor where one can sit along the cove or hike out onto the rocks to enjoy the ocean views. This is a great place to watch the sunrise if you are unable to get up to Cadillac Mountain. As a bonus, tucked in a shady wooded area are the stone & brick remains of the Old Farm house foundation. This was the home of George Dorr, whose preservation efforts during most of his adult life & inheritance made Acadia National Park possible. Pictures of this stunning estate can be found on the trail head signage. Enjoy.
